I bet you did not know there is a beautiful forest wildlife preserve located on Roswell Road next to the North Fulton Service Center. The John Ripley Forbes Big Trees Forest Preserve is a beautiful and unique 30-acre Sandy Springs tree, plant, and wildlife sanctuary.
It is designed and managed as a forest education center offering 1-1/2 miles of walking trails. The site ncludes hilly topography, two creeks, and a diverse middle growth forest including some large 100- and 200-year-old white oak trees. Visitors can pick up a self-guided trail tour brochure at the Preserve entrance.
But be forewarned – this is a place for reflection and quiet – so older children may appreciate it more than young ones. There is plenty of parking when you go. The preserve is a volunteer site for the 2008 Volunteer For A Better Sandy Springs on Saturday, April 26, 2008. Volunteering at the Preserve is a great way to meet the dedicated staff as will learn more about this wonderful Sandy Springs resource.
